Racelab: Robot Race Training

This was an educational app designed to surface Machine Learning in a gamified environment.

RaceLab: a machine learning racing game

You are in charge of training your robot racers however you want. You can create fast racers that aim for an optimal racing line or aggressive brains that attempt to block and are are trained for maximum collisions. Racelab uses a custom built machine learning ai training algorithm, allowing users to truly craft and train their own unique racers.

Create training environments

Generate new tracks, using a simple random track builder, share them with your friends and unlock competition race tracks by progressing through the championship.

Set goals & penalties

Set rewards and goals to train your racing brain

You can wire up your racer’s brain to the actions you want. By setting reward values, positive values encourage a behaviour, negative values discourage a behaviour, and training your robots using reinforcement learning in a simulation.

You could give player collisions a negative value to avoid other players or a positive value to encourage hitting other player.

Train until you’re ready

Racelab has a holo-track where you can train your robots in a simulated environment. There is an infinite number of tracks that can be generated. Once you’re happy that your new racer is performing optimally you’re ready to take on a qualifying challenge and race competitors.

Enter competitions,win trophies & upgrades

Your first challenge is to beat the local ai champions, incorporate their equipment, race tracks and upgrades into your racer’s training. You’ll need to re-train your robot racers to adapt to new equipment.

Race your ai in online tournaments

Gain online access

Progress far enough and you’ll be able to compete against other champions online. Unlocking new rewards and upgrades in each race.

Become global champion

Top the rankings

If you can beat your opponents and prove yourself, you can unlock better upgrades and equipment.
